No connection between display and Robo-Tank Controller
#1
Dear all,

Could you please tell me the step by step procedure to connect display board and the controller. The display is powered by the controller but there is no connection between both boards.

Thx.

I made some Due tests with the test file, and I got this message

Initializing sd card...
SUCCESS - sd card initialized.
Wait 5 seconds for test to begin
Serial1 Sent Signal to Power Bar

I did the same with the test files for the Mega but nothing is displaying.

What are the next steps ?

Hi dagsterbox, sorry you're having trouble, I assume you had each of the test sketches running on each arduino while they were connected? A couple things to try. The 2 small IC's on the display board, IC1 and IC3, make sure they are soldered good. They can be tricky and appear soldered but not.

Also check the voltages on IC2 on the power bar board. There should be 5v on each of the pins in red.

Hi Rob,

Solder looks fine.

I have made the testing and i have no supply on these pins (file attached)

did you follow the traces back to see where the power stops?

Well,

Not sure that my reply will really help. The traces go up to pin 22 and this pin is connected on the controller but I can't identify where the problem comes from.

May be Rob can confirm.

Hi dagsterbox, if those 2 pins don't have 5v then that's the problem. The trace going to pin 22 is the Tx1 coming from the display. The other pin on the IC with no voltage goes to Rx1 on the mega.

I'm thinking the problem is on the display board. Its not sending the Tx1 signal so no voltage on pin 22. Maybe try heating those 2 IC's once more. If it doesn't work I can send you new IC's to try again.
