Controlling Expansion Hub Via Jumpers or GUI?
#1
Getting closer to finishing the expansion hub but now I thought of something and was hoping for input on whether this is a good idea or not?

Some of the ports will be multi-functional, should they be set via jumpers or in the GUI?

For example, on the 4 power head ports you'll be able to select the signal, 0-5v PWM, 0-10v PWM, 0-5v Ananlog or 0-10v Analog, should that be set using a jumper on the circuit board or in the GUI?

I think selecting the option on the display is cool and super easy for the user but if that was changed while something was plugged in it could ruin something.

So maybe not such a good idea? What do you think?

I would like changing by the. GUI. You can make it save by a second question form the GUIl like "are you shure. YES / NO"

gui would be nice but i the jumpers are less problems as once set can never change which i think is best derek

I agree with Neo set it with a jumper but if you want have the GUI echo your settings. once you set the jumpers to what you want you can go to a whatever/jumpers screen or something and it will display the ones that you are using for a visual display for the ones you physically set. hopefully that might be a easy/doable thing if not just make jumpers and for get the GUI

Yes I think it's the better way to have the switch and additionally indicate the status of the switches on the display. When the PCB is installed in a case, it would certainly be helpful if the switches are located on the edge of the PCB and are accessible from the outside, so you do not always have to unscrew the case.

Well not an easy decision because I really want the option to be changed in the GUI because its easy and I think super cool but in the end I don't think its the right thing to do. Adding the yes/no option is a good idea but its more code, not to mention making all the screens for the different options each port can do. The Due is already nearly 80% full so I need to be careful with how I use it. Plus it can confuse things, there's already more than 45 different pages.

And yeah I agree once you have something set for that port chances are you won't be changing it anytime soon. And whats a few screws, come on you DIYer's.  K05163 I'll post some pictures of it soon.
