That can happen, if display is sitting on splash screen and controller is reset the display might not reset that's why I mention the power cycle.
I see nothing wrong with the hardware as you get eeprom = 50 but don't get startup completed so it must be a setting as this is known to happen. Sorry but you have to try the pre-update again, make sure Arduino is mounted on controller board and watch serial monitor to make sure it says "finished" after 5-7 minutes.
